Eight groups of four teams each are followed by play-off rounds in the elimination round, the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the championship game. Eight group winners advance directly to the round of 16, and eight group runners-up and the third-place teams from the Europa League groups compete in further knockout round play-offs before the round of 16.

There are three qualifying rounds and a play-off round prior to the group stage (split into a main path, and a champions path for those transferring from the Champions League and Europa League champions path). No teams automatically advance to the group stage.

The victors receive a stunning trophy in addition to a spot in the Europa League group stage the following season, assuming they have not already qualified for the Champions League through their domestic league.

The group stage of at least one competition will have representatives from at least 34 UEFA national associations thanks to the new system for UEFA club competitions that was established in 2021/22.

In the group stages of the Europa League, Champions League, and Europa Conference League, there must be a minimum of 14 domestic champions, eight to eleven domestic champions, and nine to twelve domestic champions, respectively. All three club events are open to all member associations, and the quotas for all associations have not altered.
